Help Scratched/Distorted screen on PhoenixOS/Darkmatter GUI

Hello everyone

So let me give you a little back story,
I Installed PhoenixOS exe from Official website, installed, restarted to boot on the system, scratched/distorted screen happens when the welcome window first time appears.
that got fixed (don't know how) by burning the PhoenixOS.iso on a USB Flash and formatting the partition to EXT4, the screen was kind of cropped on the right and the whole screen looked foggy but not distorted, still unplayable.

Now I switched Darkmatter since PhoenixOS is outofdate
I did a normal install using the guided windows installation using the exe
when I finished the install, proceeded with the package choosing in boot console to Darkmatter
then it told me to switch to GUI using Alt+F7
Here's how the screen appeared:
nWjThNL.jpg

basically every phoenix exe install I did looked like this when any GUI appears on the screen,
but If I install from USB Flash it doesn't happen, but I think it happens later, not sure.

How can I fix this?
Any help is appreciated please..

My specifications:
CPU: AMD R5 3600
GPU: RTX 2060
Partition: SSD Nvme ext4 (MBR type)

I had the same problem. Updating the kernel to 5.10 worked for me. But I m not sure if it has drivers for your GPU. I have AMD GPU
You can try updating the kernel using gearlock

Can you please guide me on updating the kernel from windows? I think I need to mount that partition and download kernel 5.10 and move the files there,, right?
Download also mesa or else kernel won't boot https://supreme-gamers.com/r/mesa-graphics-rendering-drivers-by-hmtheboy154.29/
And this Kernel https://supreme-gamers.com/t/xanmod-googlelts-codename-pledge-kernel-5-10-x-for-android-x86.377/
• Put them in your gearload folder
* For booted android-system: (Fx-File-Manager > gearload)
* For recovery mode: (Mount partition in windows with ExtFS shortcut on desktop and you will find gearload folder there)

• Then GearLock > 1] Install / Uninstall with GXPM
* For recovery mode you need to use option 4 in grub

• Use >> Select from gearload folder

• Choose your package/extension you wanna install

It is not the kernel

It's not because of kernel, its either, your pc is compatible with 64bit or your using 32bit os and installing on 64bit pc, check the bootiax 32 or 64bit, use "easy uefi" to check it its 32 or 64bit, or you can use DM grub to check and fix it automatically,

Yes. Mount the exefs partition.. and copy the kernel and mesa gearlock packages to the gearload folder or the data folder .. and boot the Darkmatter os and press g in console or Alt+f7.. and choose metro -> install/uninstall-> install from custom location. And choose the files (kernal and mesa) one by one .. and it will ask to update firmware too. Press Y for yes. And see if that works for you .. I'm having some boot problems after upding kernel.. but at least I can boot it up with drivers loaded.

@zuheralbank please read this post.
your cpu is fine but GPU might not work well.
best option is to test it with kernel 4.14.x / 5.4.x / 5.10.x and mesa 18.3.6 / 20.1.10
we've some expectations from upcoming mesa 20.2 hopefully it'll have some nvidia GPU fixes

I got an error on the install that says:

it should be read-only or does it require writing permissions?
I followed your steps precisely and this is the result..

hope you can help.

Thanks for the heads-up, I knew something like this was an issue.
I'm currently installing those 2 extensions and really hope they work out
but had an error on installing at the last post.

although I'm using DarkMatter_Exo4.7_BETA-2 (latest version I think)

looks like your system partition is not mounted as read/write to install any kernel / mes package first you need to extract the system.img file to ext4 drive and DM automatically does that when you first boot into the system.
but for some reason if your drive got corrupt then you need to format the drive & re-install the os & then again boot into the os for first time to let it extract the system.img then reboot to gearlock recovery to install your kernel & mesa.

This problem was so simple
- distorted screen
- read only disk

All he need to do is clean install,
1. Create ext4 disk
2. Install DM with no "crc error" crc - means no missing files, sometime ISO file can easily corrupted upon downloading if you dont have properly downloaded it
3. Make sure that if your PC is 32bit you need to use 32bit OS only, but it your PC can handle 64bit then it can run 32bit OS, just like windows, 32bit Graphic card cant run 64bit OS unless you fix the booting sequence, like bootiax32.efi or replace that with bootiax64.efi, in uefi it is Grubx64.efi
4. Never use third party apps if you use DM installer.exe because it has builtin extsfd loader on it, 2 extfsd can coexist it will cause error to system disk, thats the 1 possible cause 2 possible cause not properly downloaded DM ISO, by the time the install copy the files and it is incomplete it will report your system files is read-only, the DM script cant find the file need
5. If you use gear lock, better extract the ISO to your windows desktop and delete the old gearlock and let it download new one , makesure yourun the installer from extracted DM from desktop.
6. For Mesa and Kernel , before you update it, pull a default mesa and kernel from your OS using gearlock, use autocreate so you wont have any problem, can be found on gearload after pulling it from OS system. Once you have done that you can now restore it if your updated mesa and kernel goes wrong,

Note: to test you dont have missing crc files, try extracting system.sfs , inside system.img if no error or the bytes equal to what it shows the your good to go.

ok to just to be clear, system.img must be unpacked and should be like a folder "system", correct?

I already have the partition looking like this and no system.img

I'm sorryfor being a noobie on this :(

what i mean,
extract contens of DM ISO and place it in one folder, it should be a system.sfs or system.img

the DM installer will automatically copy it, on installation, the gearlock will supercharge the system.sfs/.img it means it will automatically convert it into extracted file into folder System

just copy all content of DM ISO and delete the old gearlock and let the installation download new gearlock to be able to fix the 5.0 kernel

when you copy the file it should be on desktop folder as a installer, because if you put it on the ext4 partion directly im sure the same thing will happened,

My fine sir you are a legend, I managed with your steps to wrap all this,
At first I just removed the gearlock and it re-downloaded in installing, after that I was able to copy those extensions at the beginning and install them one by one (kernel 5.10, mesa) and they do seem to work I'm not having any distorted screen.

but I think (and hope not) stuck on some phase:

photo_2021-01-08_00-02-06.jpg

when I boot with any option (kernel flags.. etc) I get here and nothing happens.

should I just wait because its first time booting and might take time? I have a high-end PC and I installed the system on a SSD Nvme so any load should be fast? or I'm missing something?

I dont know much about kernel, but for some reason kernel 5 has some issue with some pc, i suggest you just use the default kernel 4.x.x or not higher than kernel 5.x.x, most of it stuck up from booting,

High end pc dont need much tweaks because it has higher ram and more cpu core,

so this is a kernel issue? are you sure? do I now have to download this kernel maybe

hoping it may work out? :\ which kernel should I use, and is it really a kernel issue?

and thanks for helping so far..

Im not that sure about that but you can try it, its better than kernel 5.x.x,
I used the kernel from PhoenixOS ROC v9.0 would be best for DM beta2, the wifi and Bluetooth is already enabled

As i've told you before for you specs
Code:
My specifications:
CPU: AMD R5 3600
GPU: RTX 2060
Partition: SSD Nvme ext4 (MBR type)

you must use kernel 5.4 or 5.10 and if you want you can even try kernel 5.8 gxp from bliss os
but for your GPU you need to use Mesa 18.3.6 since that's the most stable one with nvidia GPU or you need to use
Code:
 nouveau.modeset=0
in your grub code to disable nvidia GPU driver that's causing issues in boot.

the reason you can not get a boot animation of phoenix os is your GPU driver is failing. and the reason for that is simple nvidia have poor support over android x86.

Should I now go back to 5.4 since 5.10 isn't working? I just want a kernel that works.. currently downloading 5.8 to see if it works,
I added that line in the grub code
term.png

I think I should've added it on the menuentry before "SRC=/DarkMatter-Exo4.7", hope you correct me anyway,
it gave this result:
1.jpg

and I'm using Mesa 18.3.6 and kernel 5.10.1

Use kernel 5.10
Kernel 5.10 doesnt work because you are using old mesa
Use mesa 20.1.10
